Introduction To The Liturgy of the Day

Sixth Sunday of Easter

The gift of the Holy Spirit, ever-present to us, is one way Christ fulfills his promise to not leave us orphaned. All the earth should truly cry out to God with joy, for he ¡s with us always. No matter life’s inequities, injustices, trials or tribulations, God can give us strength and peace through the power of the Holy Spirit. We are never alone. Jesus promised not to leave us orphaned, and one way he fulfills that promise is through the gift of the Holy Spirit.

In the first reading, Philip’s work in Samaria is fruitful. He is able to bring many people to Christ. In the second reading, the faithful are exhorted to accept suffering if necessary for the sake of the Gospel. In the Gospel, Jesus promises to provide an Advocate for his followers, the Spirit of Truth, to remain when he returns to the Father.
