*A Reflection on our “Journey”…* St Augustine Contemporary Choir has been in existence for 35 years in our parish. The choir was born with the mission to bring the earliest genre of “Folk Music” to our Eucharistic celebrations, and has evolved over time to now present the very rich and expressive “Contemporary” repertoire of liturgical music to our congregation. Over the years, and throughout changes in membership, the “Soul” of the choir has been kept alive by the Holy Spirit energizing it. There are a number of original members who have kept the fire burning and have passed it on to newer members over time. It is our hope that this flame always stays alive in our hearts so it may be passed on in the future. At this moment in time we are a small family of 24 believers and musicians nestled inside the larger family of our Parish. We come together week after week to work with great care to prepare music that we pray will give glory to God. Our mission is to enhance our liturgical celebrations with music that we hope assists our congregation in opening their minds, hearts and souls to receive the Word of God and our Lord Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. Over the past 3 years the group has expressed a desire to record a collection of our favorite hymns, as we have all so deeply felt the Holy Spirit working through us in this ministry. We were finally able to begin this project in October of 2007, and through the dedicated and enthusiastic effort of our entire group, our CD was completed by early November, 2008. We are pleased to be able to present music on this CD that features our choir of adult voices, our various adult soloists, our wonderful teenaged soloists, and our youth chorus who always join us in celebration at the high feasts of Christmas and Easter in our liturgical year. We are also blessed with the addition of the “Communion Song” on our recording, composed by our pastor Fr. Jim Curtin and his brother Paul Curtin. We wish for this selection of hymns to go forth into the community bearing the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ. The work of this recording has been a labor of love. Here is a musical expression of our faith that we pray will be like the small mustard seed that grows and contributes to the building of the Kingdom of God. We thank God for the gift of music in our lives, for the dedication and spiritual energy of our group, and for the privilege of serving in a parish as supportive and appreciative as St Augustine’s. We truly hope that our musical recording touches your soul, and is as enjoyable for you to listen to as it has been for us in its creation!

A Thrilling Update and Many, Many Thanks to You All!

The St. Augustine Contemporary Choir is very pleased to announce to the parish that we have now recovered all of the costs of recording our CD through our plentiful sales and are quickly accumulating a substantial donation to the Good Shepherd Centre. We are thrilled with this result, especially because it has occurred so quickly after the release of our CD in mid December. We extend many thanks to our parish for all of your support and for purchasing our new CD, as well as to Father Curtin for his continued encouragement and support for the creation of our wonderful CD web page. We have received many words of encouragement and praise for our CD and emails and notes describing how much our recording is being enjoyed by our listeners!

At this point, our CD and its message have travelled to many places around the world!

It is exciting to consider how now every single dollar made from the sales of the CD will be given to the Good Shepherd Mission in Hamilton! With that in mind, and with Easter just around the corner, we will continue to make the CD’s that we have left available for purchase, as our recording makes a very meaningful Easter gift. They will continue to be available for purchase at the back of the church after the 9AM Mass on Sundays, at Parish Events such as Hospitality Sundays, through the parish website where you can follow the link and listen to sound samples and through the Parish Office from Monday to Friday. Once again, we extend our warmest thanks to all of our fellow parishioners for your support and encouragement and words of congratulations and praise for our CD- -we would not be where we are without you! We are truly thankful to God and for the privilege of being able to make a positive impact on our community, both near and far, with our music!
